Access projects, funding, services and technology

The Sustainable Energy Marketplace (“Marketplace”) is a project preparation and investment platform that connects project owners, financiers/investors, services providers and technology suppliers.

The International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) launched the Marketplace, at the COP21 in Paris in December 2015, with the aim to improve the transparency and liquidity of renewable energy and energy efficiency markets in developing countries and emerging markets.

To bridge the gap between capital availability and project availability, the Marketplace provides a pipeline of investment-mature projects and increases access to finance by expanding the pool of investors and potentially available capital through innovative financing and de-risking structures.

In addition, through partnerships and cooperation, the Marketplace facilitates project initiation and strengthens project owners’ capacity to develop investment-ready projects, from concept to implementation, through project preparation activities and provides project preparation grants and technical assistance to increase project success rates.
