IRENA’s support in bringing projects closer to financing
Investment projects especially in developing countries face multiple challenges from the institutional, policy and regulatory level to the market and project level. The latter include lack of transparency of the market, lack of financing and experience in project development, and lack of relevant information on regulations, markets and resource availability. This has led to a lack of bankable projects, difficulties for investors to identify attractive projects and as a result a lack of available capital for those that are ready to be financed.
In order to alleviate the market and project level barriers and to scale-up financing for renewable energy projects in developing countries, the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) has designed and implemented tools and platforms to facilitate project initiation, development and financing. Combined, these programmatic products provide to governments, proiect developers, investors and other stakeholders a concrete and practical support in realising their renewables energy ambition.
